ALL-IRELAND FLEADH 2000 - ENNISCORTHY

The All - Ireland Fleadh which took place on the weekend of 25 - 27 August in Enniscorthy turned out to be a great success. The Portglenone and Crosskeys areas were well represented and to our delight they came back home with a number of titles.

Crosskeys All-Ireland Grupai Cheoil Champions

Under the guidance of Sheena Weir and Martin Agnew, Crosskeys Grupai Cheoil beat off stiff competition from Ireland, Britain and the United States to take the title up north for the first time in the 15-18 yrs age group.

Martin was not able to stay in the dome for the results as he was playing with Clooney Flute Band in the Senior Flute Band competition but it wasn't long before the rest of the group rallied up to the playing fields to share the fantastic news. As it turned out, Martin had a double celebration as he also helped Clooney Band win the All-Ireland Flute Band title.

The trio of Mairead and Sean Og Graham and Seana Agnew who were all successful in the group competition had double celebrations as well. They won the 15-18 Trio competition.

15-18 Trio Winners

Cloney Flute Band won the Senior Flute Band competition. As usual they were up against the classy bands of Maghery and Mullaghduff but with a fine repertoire of outstanding tunes and pin point marching they lifted the All-Ireland title.

To finish off an excellent day, and one which a lot of people will remember for years to come, the three groups of All-Ireland Winners paraded down through Enniscorthy town centre where the silverware was carried high at the front. Cloney Band played all the way in from the playing fields with the rest parading behind. They received a rapturous applause from all the people assembled on the streets.

3 pieces of Silverware heading North

Congratulations also go to Christopher McGlone and Eamonn Murray (Loughbeg CCE) who won their respective Bodhran competitions. Christopher won the 15-18 competition, for the second year running, and Eamonn won the 12-15 competition.
